peanut butter dog treats

Creamy or chunky, peanut butter is a delicious and hearty spread that is enjoyed by both people and their canine friends. January 24th is National Peanut Butter Day, and in honor of this delicious, versatile snack, we’ve collected several peanut butter dog treat recipes so you and your pup can join in the celebration. (As if you needed a reason to eat peanut butter!)

Important note: Some healthy or high-protein peanut butters are sweetened with xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs. When sharing with your dog, read the label and only use all-natural peanut butter whose only ingredient is peanuts.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and egg. Add peanut butter, water, honey and stir until you have stiff dough. The dough becomes very firm and sticky. You may need to use your hands, or the paddle attachment on your mixer.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough about ½-inch thick and use cookie cutters to make fun shapes. The treats barely spread and rise, so get creative with your shapes.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes until golden.
  5. Keep in an airtight container or give as gifts!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups rolled oats
  • 1 large banana
  • ½ cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  5. Dust your surface with the reserved ground oatmeal and roll out your dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into desired shapes and place on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  7. Bake treats for approximately 15 minutes, or until the edges start to brown.
  8. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to a week.
