Pet Insurance for Older Cats

From naptime to cuddles, our older feline friends bring us great comfort and joy as they ease into their golden years. While they can suffer from a host of chronic conditions as they age – diabetes, arthritis, and kidney disease to name a few – enrolling your cat before diagnosis means you won’t have to worry about those late-in-life ailments.

As your cats gets older, they may be affected by a hereditary or congenital condition that could cost you a fortune if you don’t already have pet insurance. With Healthy Paws, most enrollments are encouraged when cats are young and healthy in order to be protected for life. However, you can enroll your “purry” friend up until their 14th birthday.

If you’ve just adopted a senior pet, kudos! Giving a sweet friend a comfortable home with a window perch and some catnip every night is the best way to treat a senior cat. If you’re looking to adopt, most shelters and rescues offer ‘specials’ on senior pets; they have reduced adoption rates and will even have adoption days dedicated to these wise old souls. After you’ve brought your new cat home, here’s what to expect from your cat health insurance policy.

What is Covered?

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance covers your cat from nose to tail—for the rest of her lifetime. Our cat insurance plan pays on your actual veterinary bill and covers injuries, illnesses, emergencies, genetic conditions and much more. At Healthy Paws we offer one simple plan that covers accidents and illnesses, excluding pre-existing conditions.

What is a Pre-Existing Condition?

A pre-existing condition means that the condition first occurred or showed clinical signs or symptoms (there doesn’t need to be a diagnosis) before your cat’s coverage started or during the 15 day waiting period. Healthy Paws excludes pre-existing conditions from coverage as do all pet insurance companies.

What is Not Covered?

We are all about protecting you and your cat from unexpected accidents and illnesses as well as the financial burden from hefty vet bills.  Our cat insurance plan doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions (no policy does), the examination fee, or preventative care, such as annual check-ups, vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures and teeth cleaning. For more information, see our complete list of exclusions.

How Does Cat Insurance Work?

With Healthy Paws, you can visit any licensed veterinarian including specialists and emergency animal hospitals, as well as alternative care providers. After enrolling your cat, you will have a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses and. Start by getting a free quote – most cats are protected for as little as $1 a day.
