Why Not Me? Meet Duke!

By Colleen Williams
August 1, 2018 • 2 min. read

We’ve partnered with Pawsitive Alliance for the #WhyNotMePets campaign to give difficult-to-home pets an extra paw up. These lovable pets are ready to find their forever homes.

Age/Gender/Size: 3 years/ Male / Large

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever Mix

Likes: Splashing around at the beach

Dislikes: Lots of loud activity

Special Considerations: He can be nervous around strangers

This handsome fellow is Duke! Duke is an adorable pittie/lab mix who is about 3 years old. He has a beautiful white coat and brown freckles on his sweet face. His favorite activities include romping around the yard and playing with tennis balls and squeaky toys! Duke loves to go for quiet hikes in the woods and loves to explore all the smells nature has to offer! He loves the water – specifically playing in the kiddy pool during hot summer days, splashing around at the beach, and bath time! He is an active pup and would make a wonderful hiking or running buddy. After a day of fun, he will curl up on a cozy bed and snooze all night long.

Duke is looking for a home where snoring is fully accepted since he’s not exactly a quiet sleeper – but he is so cute when he snuggles with his stuffed toys, and he even chases sticks in his sleep! Duke is house-trained and crate-trained and loves a nice ride in a car.

Since Duke is a special boy who takes time to build relationships with new people, he needs a home with parents who will give him time to settle in and learn to trust people. He seems to be more comfortable with women, as he can be a bit fearful with men. Because Duke can be nervous with lots of activity and uncomfortable with strangers, it would be best if he were in a quiet home with few visitors. He would also do best in a home with kids over the age of 16 and as the only pet in the home.

If you are looking for an active best friend, Duke is the one for you! Duke is currently spending time in Foster Care, so meets are by appointment only. He has been fully vetted and neutered. If you would like more information on Duke, please email

Every Wednesday,
Healthy Paws will highlight a new pet from Pawsitive Alliance’s #WhyNotMePets campaign. Visit the #WhyNotMePets page for a list of adoptable dogs and cats.
