At Healthy Paws, we seek out like-minded companies and projects that focus on helping pets, either by finding them fur-ever homes or strengthening the human-animal bond. So when we discovered Andrew Knapp (founder of Find Momo) was launching a site that with his stunning imagery and stories about a dog’s unconditional love, we were sold. He called it “Catalyst Dogs”, meaning a dog who has changed their human for the better, and the project reinforces the idea of “who rescued who” – while these humans adopt pups from shelters, they find themselves as the ones who are “saved.”
There are 11 personal stories on the site, which vary per pet parent considerably. There’s Sara, a single mom, and Vincent, a pup who had suffered considerable abuse; to Cindy, a mediator who often helps children testify in court, and her dog Miles, an emotional support dog who helps those children through their interviews. “Our dogs are our catalysts of change,” says Knapp. “We follow them down new paths and they show us a new perspective; they’re a constant reminder to live in the moment. This project reflects not only on a dog’s ability to change our lives, but our ability to allow that change.”
Knapp’s mission to share the significance of our companionship with pets aligns perfectly with Healthy Paws, so support seemed natural. “We are delighted to support ‘Catalyst Dogs’ and share these stories far and wide,” says cofounder and CEO of Healthy Paws, Rob Jackson. “For anyone who has loved a pet, this site really drives home the message that animals help us in ways we could never expect or imagine, and returning the favor by protecting them is a privilege we’re proud to take on.”
Healthy Paws has been invested in supporting the physical and mental health benefits of pets through our work with HABRI (the Human Animal Bond Research Institute), and our quarterly Rescue Race which gives grants of $70,000 to shelters and rescue organizations that help homeless pets and individuals in need. By working with Catalyst Dogs, we hope to help spread the word that the human-animal bond is as crucial to our own well-being as it is to our pets.
